How to migrate wordpress blog to a new hosting server

By the end of this tutorial you will be able to move your wordpress (blog or website) to a new hosting server, here from Godaddy server to Hostgator hosting server. Although migrating  wordpress from one server to another is a little bit tough job as it also includes database migration. Normally files can be transferred very easily by just downloading from one hosting server and uploading to another hosting server in a specific root directory. Apart from file transfer we also have to move our database by exporting from previous servers database and importing in a new server database. Finally the most important step is changing the name servers of the domain. Here we have to put name server of new hosting server(Hostgator in our case).

Although the whole process is complex, so i am dividing the whole process in steps. Here i am assuming that we are migrating from Godaddy server to Hostgator server, things will remain same in case you have any other server. For any help you can comment below.

Step 1- Migrating your files from previous server to new server.

here one can use FTP clients like Filezilla  or default web based Godaddy FTP file manager, both will work with equal ease. However Filezilla can be more convenient for you, as we have to pick and drop there. Now here i am assuming here that you know how to add a domain in Hostgator using (Addon domains) application. After adding your domain you will be getting a specified root directory/folder. Now upload your files downloaded from Godaddy to this folder in Hostgator.

Step 2- Exporting the previous database from Godaddy.

Login to your godaddy control panel and click on MYSQL icon, in order to proceed.

  1. Hey thank you bro…for your wonderful comment.

  2. I’d recommend to use 3rd party tool / plugin for WordPress called xCloner, which is very useful to backup full site with DB and transfer between servers.
